It contains works by Bach, Beethoven, Schubert, Chopin, Grieg, Liszt, Brahms, Debussy, Ravel, Satie, Stanley Myers, and Duke Ellington. Created for a friend who was suffering from cancer, the recording includes slow pieces ranging between 60 and 70 beats per minute, a tempo that matches the rate of the human pulse at rest. When played, the music can help calm an agitated nervous system or overly excited heart because the rhythm of our bodies will begin to match that of the music. Reflections is a testimony to the power of these timeless compositions to help us reflect on peace in our lives and facilitate relaxation and healing. Currently, it is used in healing institutions and homes around the world. Recorded at the United Church of Chapel Hill in Chapel Hill, N.C., Reflections was released in 2001.Reflections reviews Hear sample clips from Reflections: Schubert - Impromptu in G-flat Major, Op. 90 No. 3 Chopin - Nocturne in E-flat Major, Op. 9 No. 2 Ellington - Reflections in D ![]() EXCURSIONS
Excursions is Greg McCallum’s debut CD. It includes works by Mozart, Liszt, Ravel, Gottschalk, Joplin, and Barber. The selections take the listener on an excursion through time, place, and musical style. The journey begins on the European continent with a classical sonata written by Mozart in 1777. It continues with two different styles from the following centuries: the mid-nineteenth century poetry and virtuosity of the Romantic Hungarian composer Franz Liszt, and the early twentieth century Impressionism of French composer Maurice Ravel. On the American continent, we find composers who both continue and break away from European musical traditions. Louis Moreau Gottschalk’s career as the first American touring virtuoso paralleled that of the legendary Franz Liszt. At about the same time Ravel was writing his fiendishly difficult Gaspard de la Nuit, Scott Joplin’s Maple Leaf Rag established his reputation as the “King of Ragtime Writers.” The exploration of musical styles concludes in America near the end of World War II with Samuel Barber’s Excursions, based on American folk idioms. Excursions was recorded in Hubbard Hall at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City and released in 1996 on the JSC Recordings label (JSC CD 5364).Excursions reviews Hear sample clips from Excursions: Liszt - Mephisto Waltz No. 1 Ravel - “Ondine” from Gaspard de la Nuit Barber - Excursions ~ Allegro molto Currently out of stock Stores That Carry Greg's CDs: |
